In attempts to control this disease the protection of the foliage from the time of its appearance in the spring until three or four weeks after harvest is vitally important. The cherry grower should, also, plow under in the fall any old, affected leaves which would otherwise carry the disease over to the following spring. The remedy upon which the cherry grower must chiefly depend is thorough and timely spraying. He may use limesulphur solution one and one-fourth to 50 or Bordeaux 3-4-50, to either of which arsenate of lead should be added at the rate of one to one and one-half pounds to 50, and the poison will control the curculio and other biting and chewing insects. The first spray should be applied just before the blossom buds open, the second summer spray should be applied immediate after the petals fall, the third summer spray 12 to 14 days after the blossom-fall spray, and a fourth summer spray should be applied immediately after picking the fruit.--T.
